All Kailash Information

Intro:

When you think of Kailash, only one Kailash comes to mind. There are five sacred Kailash peaks in all known as Panchakailash.

One Kailash peak is located near Mansarovar in Tibet. The other four are in India at different locations; in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Types of Kailash

1. Kinnaur Kailash

Kinnaur Kailash is a mysterious, sacred place at a height of 17200 feet above sea level.

  • A strenuous, challenging route to this destination is not for the faint hearted; more well suited for those who like adventure travel.
  • Roads are narrow and bumpy with deep valleys on one side and the rocky Himalayan range on the other.
  • Government buses can be used for travel driven by the Himalayan Roadways drivers.
  • Buses to Kinnaur Kailash ply from the romantic snowy city of Shimla.
  • ‘Rekong Peo’ is the main village along this route. Most villages beyond Shimla are close to the Chinese border which influences their culture and life.
    • Only this village has two ATMs. One of which is SBI. And that’s what works most of the time. It takes more than twelve hours from Shimla to go to Rekong Peo.
  • After Rekong Peo, trek through the forest to reach Kinnaur Kailash.
  • Parvati Kund is located near Kinner Kailash which has a garden believed to be the meeting place of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
  • Kinnaur Kailash cone – two birds in the groove of the cone watch the movement of all people.

2. Shrikhand Kailash

Also known as Shrikhand Mahadev Kailash, it falls in the Garhwal range of Himachal Pradesh.

  • There is snow all year round, but this cone-shaped, 75-foot Shivpindi does not accumulate snow.
  • It is located at 19,000 feet above sea level. Visitors can feel that there is less oxygen at this height.
  • Breathtaking Himalayan ranges of Kullu, Jorkandan, etc. from the Parvati valley.

3. Adi Kailash

This is also called Mini Kailash. This Adi Kailash is seen/reached while going to the famous Kailash near Manasarovar in Tibet. But for that, one has to take the traditional route to Kailash. While going through the new route from Nepal or Sikkim, this beautiful Kailash, the counterpart of Kailash in Tibet, is not visible. The famous Om mountain is also visible on this route.

4. Mani Mahesh Kailash

It is the more famous Kailash among the four lesser-known Kailash located in the Bharmour subdivision, Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh

  • People who visit Mani Mahesh Kailash specially wait for the sunrise. Surya bimb (Sun’s rays/reflection) comes on the top of Shivalinga in the form of a cone, like a huge bright bead on Shankar’s pindi.
  • Travellers and devotees who have visited here have been overcome with emotion when the sun rays appear like a Mani or diamond on the mountain top. Looking at the glow, people felt the chamatkar of God’s presence during this time.

The Manimahesh Lake, at 13,000 feet at the foot of the Kailash peak is a sacred pilgrimage site.

5. Kailash near Manas Sarovar in Tibet

No need to say a word about this. Only experience, feeling is important.

Nearby the mysterious silent Ravana Tal, the dissolved sapphire Manas Sarovar. Behind it the wonderful Kailash mountain.

These are the five Kailash. All these Kailash can be reached only when the monsoon season reaches its peak. That too in just thirty to forty days. The rest of the roads are closed throughout the year. Shiva is absorbed in his samadhi and meditation.
